The Salvation Army’s Gateway of Hope is a modern, state of the art facility for the homeless and at-risk population in Langley, B.C. The three-storey development provides 30 emergency shelter beds and 25 supportive independent living transitional beds for the homeless or those at risk of homelessness in the community. But the facility offers more than shelter. The building has an extensive recycling program addressing conventional waste streams. In addition, they have an extensive program addressing the commercial kitchen waste streams including organics. Also, over 53% of the site area has been restored with native/adaptive vegetation.
