Summary

When the Stanley Park Ecology Society decided to replace an aging popcorn stand, they decided to create a new green structure in its place. The society chose to build a cob building since it met the Park Board’s criteria of an environmental, arts and culture, and community building.

Cob is a form of natural building that uses almost all natural and locally-sourced building materials. The small cob popcorn stand was a collaborative project between the Vancouver Park Board, Stanley Park Ecology Society, The Down To Earth Building Bee, UBC engineering and the BCIT green roof research facility. 200 volunteers contributed time and energy to its construction.
