Summary

UBC’s Technology Enterprise Facility III (TEF III), developed by Discovery Parks Trust, is designed for multi-disciplinary research and development in the biomedical field. This six-storey building is Canada’s first LEED® Silver Certified research facility, and is the first building on a Canadian university campus to achieve LEED certification. The building was constructed using locally manufactured and salvaged materials to reduce the intensity of resource use.

Thirteen percent of total building materials contain post-consumer and post-industrial content such as concrete with 30% fly ash. Bi-stable vortex fume hoods and innovative design technologies were incorporated to reduce the operating costs by 50% through a reduction in air flow capacity.
