Summary

Founded in 1996, Green Links is an initiative of Douglas College’s Institute of Urban Ecology, focused on the preservation of regional biodiversity throughout the Lower Mainland. The program is based on principles of conservation biology and landscape ecology, demonstrating that increased connectivity between “nodes” of habitat leads to significant increases in biodiversity.

Green Links joins isolated parks and nature preserves with restored stream and utility corridors, residential greenways, and agricultural hedgerows. Examples include the Coquitlam corridor, which connects Scott Creek, Pinnacle Creek Ravine, Mundy Park, Riverview Forest, and Colony Farm Regional Park, and the Burnaby corridor, which connects Bryne Creek Ravine Park to Robert Burnaby Park.
