The Vancouver Police Department Compound at 2010 Glen in Vancouver, BC contains two buildings constructed at separate phases. The Tactical Training Centre (VPD-TTC) is a 4,400 square meter (47,361 sft) police training facility representing the first phase of construction on this site. The VPD-TTC is owned by the City of Vancouver and tenanted by the Vancouver Police Department. This facility is intended for the training of officers and includes simulation-training rooms, firing ranges, classrooms and other facilities. The second phase consists of the Forensic Storage Facility (VPD FSF), a 9,050 square meter (97,413 sft) Post Disaster-level designed facility. Its evidence storage component is designed to accommodate all types of evidence including firearms, drugs, DNA samples, etc., with freezer rooms and climatic controls to provide the proper conditions to prevent degradation of evidence. The SEFC site includes 32 hectares of formerly industrial lands which constituted the last remaining tract of undeveloped waterfront land in downtown Vancouver. The SEFC development has over 600,000 square meters of residential development, approximately 6,200 housing units, and an estimated total population ranging from 10,000 to 12,000 people. The first phase of the development, completed at the end of 2009, temporarily accommodated athletes of the 2010 Olympic/Paralympic Winter Games, after which it was converted into a high-density, mixed-use sustainable neighbourhood with approximately 1,100 housing units. The Budzey Building is a 10 storey, 10,989 m2 multi-unit residential social housing development with ancillary support services and amenity spaces combined with secondary use leased spaces. The project is located on a site purchased by the City of Vancouver in 2007, which was identified as on one of the 12 City-owned sites to be reserved for social and supportive housing. Built as a home for women and women-led families who require supportive housing, the housing project is managed by RainCity Housing and Support Society. RainCity helps families address issues, which may include mental health concerns or substance abuse, through various programs and support services to build community and partnerships for tenants. In honour of a vibrant resident of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the building was bestowed with the name Budzey, after Lorna Budzey who died in 2000. Lorna stayed with RainCity due to the lack of supports and housing that recognized her unique experiences. She invited RainCity to take the time to listen and be aware of how to interact with and support individuals while challenging the organization to be inclusive and welcoming to everyone. READ MORE

The project prioritized a functional, practical, and effective layout for the CAB, with sufficient daylight, and sought to strike the right balance between energy efficiency and ventilation. The Marine Building is a 25-storey, 296,000 sq/ft iconic heritage office tower. Built in the Art Deco style in 1930, the Marine Building is centrally located in downtown Vancouver BC’s Coal Harbour. The building was renovated from 1982 to 1989 for stylistic, as well electrical, mechanical, air-conditioning system upgrades. In 2014, Oxford Properties committed to a capital improvement plan, complete with assessments and training through the LEED Canada Existing Buildings: Operation & Maintenance (EB:O&M) rating system. They worked with MMM Group consultants and targeted a high level of Silver certification. EB:O&M certification creates value by comparing actual performance to a three-month operations baseline period with a year of energy data. Named in honour of long-serving Sanford Housing Society board member and Vancouver City Councilor Marguerite Ford, this multi-unit residential building offers 147 units of housing in studio and one-bedroom apartments on 10 levels. The Science & Technology Building features over 12,000 square metres of new campus space allocated over five storeys. On the west side, a dramatic 16-metre cantilevered portion incorporates a skylight window that allows natural daylight to penetrate through to the ground below. Registrar & Enrolment Services and food outlets anchor the main floor, with event space and meeting rooms on the second level. State-of-the-art chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy, nursing, and computing science labs populate the upper three floors. There are also collaborative study spaces, a greenhouse for instructional purposes, and an observation deck on the roof. The new building is pursuing 3rd party certification via the Canada Green Building Council, aiming for a Gold level in their Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) standard. The project has incorporated green building features such as a low emissivity roof, the use of local, sustainable building materials, an energy-efficient building envelope, and low-flow fume hoods with adjustable sashes.
