Summary

The YIPI! project is an affordable, durable and energy-efficient ready-to-move house located north of the central Saskatchewan community of Prince Albert. Situated at the gateway to the north, the YIPI! project will introduce thousands of travelers and members of the local community to the advantages of owning an EQuilibriumâ„¢ home.

The YIPI! Net Zero Footprint Housing project is intended to serve as a model for a new kind of affordable, healthy and energy-efficient housing that can be built and delivered to remote, rural communities throughout the country.

Key features of the project will include an emphasis on affordable technologies, indoor air quality, renewable energy systems and the involvement of Aboriginal organizations at each stage of the design and construction process.

First and foremost, YIPI! Net Zero Footprint Housing will use clean, efficient solar power to provide a steady supply of energy for space heating, hot water, lighting and appliances while ensuring a healthy environment both indoors and out. Efficient appliances will help keep energy consumption to a minimum, while the application of low-toxicity materials and bright interiors will create a healthy indoor environment.

The project will also take full advantage of Saskatchewan’s sunny climate through the use of natural daylighting and site-specific design. In addition, in order to increase affordability, YIPI! Net Zero Footprint Housing will be built using ready-to-move (RTM) construction methods, and materials that can be ordered online.

This combination of convenience and customized features are designed to make YIPI! Net Zero Footprint Housing an affordable, practical and environmentally-friendly housing option for city and rural living.
